Flotsam and Jetsam: Mixed Media & Fiber Work by Polly Giragosian

Come celebrate her art and heritage during a reception on Saturday, April 3 from 2 to 6 pm in the Mindy Ross Gallery, Kaplan Hall, SUNY Orange, at the corner of Grand and First Streets, Newburgh. The exhibit runs through May 20, 2022.

Saturday is the reopening of NBNY Art Seen, an arts initiative in Newburgh. Galleries are open to welcome visitors. At SUNY Orange, partake of the art and enjoy the beautiful view of the Hudson River from Kaplan Hall which is situated on a bluff overlooking the river.

Musician Joy Zelada will play classical guitar from his large repertoire. He also will gladly explain the music and his instrument. Zelada earned an Associate in

Arts from SUNY Orange and a Bachelor of Music and a Master of Art in Music both from Hunter College.

Previous to this solo show, Polly Giragosian has shown her work in both local and national exhibitions, including Smack Mellon Studios, Brooklyn, and the Samuel Dorsky Museum of Art in New Paltz.

Polly Giragosian has had a varied journey in the arts. She began her art career studying painting and drawing at the École des Beaux Arts in Paris, then at Massachusetts College of Art, and also the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. She holds a BA in French from Smith College. She went on to receive an MFA from the University of Arizona with a concentration in fibers and in 1996 attended Skowhegan artist residency. In addition, she holds an MLIS (Master of Library and Information Science) from Rutgers University.

Students will be performing some pieces that have been working on throughout the year. There will be a variation and combination of sounds: classical guitar to rock guitar, including piano and drums.

Performance: Reception at Kaplan Hall

On Thursday, June 22, come to the Foyer of the Mindy Ross Gallery to celebrate the art of Josiah Dearborn. His exhibit, SURFACE: Silver, Plexiglas, Other Materials >handmade jewelry & objects, is displayed in the glass vitrine cases.

During the reception from 5 to 7:30 p.m., Jo Dearborn will be on hand to greet visitors and answer questions, all the while featured musician; Joy Zelada will play selections for classical guitar.

Then, the following week on Wednesday, June 28, the reception for Raptor Rapture ~ Birds of Prey of the Hudson Valley ~ will be held from 5:30 to 8 p.m. in the Mindy Ross Gallery and Foyer.

Artist-photographer, Steven Sachs will share his development of technique and his fascination with and documentation of raptors through photographing them.

Also, Diane Bliss will read a selection of her bird poems giving brief background on each.

Both receptions and the exhibits are free and open to the public. Gallery hours in June and July are Monday through Thursday 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.

The Mindy Ross Gallery and Foyer are situated in the eastern section of the first floor of Kaplan Hall which is located at the corner of Grand & First Streets on the Newburgh campus of SUNY Orange. News! Permanent Sub teaching at NFA

Long-term substitute for Monica Guido from March 13th to May 1st of 2017.  I get to teach the guitar class, boys glee, and direct the orchestra.  I also give lessons and have been preparing students for the spring concert:  we work on interpretation, technique, and appreciation of music.  I also do additional required work in a public school setting.  It has been lot of fun!

"Then and Now: Thrown Pottery Over 35 Years"

The event is free and open to the public. It is part of the arts initiative "Newburgh Last Saturdays." The exhibit is part of the Artists of Excellence series which spotlights highly talented regional artists.

“In words: Poems on Works of Art"

Autumn 2016 has been exceptionally gorgeous with fantastic colors. To visually demonstrate artists’ perceptions and reactions to the beauty of the Hudson Valley in the fall and also to depict harvest activities, an exhibit of 115 paintings, photographs, and sculptures are on display  October 25 - November 20, 2016. Come to Orange Hall Gallery on the Middletown campus of SUNY Orange to view Autumn in the Hudson Valley. Sixty artists are represented in the show. Works range in size from very small paintings to a towering sculpture installation.

 

Scheduled  from 1 to 4pm on Sunday, November 6, the reception for the exhibit will be a gathering of artists including poets who will read their new poems inspired by specific artworks and favorite works  about autumn, “In words: Poems on Works of Art.”

 

The reception and exhibit are free and open to the public. Regular gallery hours are Monday through Thursday 9am to 8pm and Friday 9am to 6pm and during performances in Orange Hall Theatre.

Fiesta Mundial

The Americas Quintet, a versatile ensemble, is performing a number of classic songs that have traveled the world.   Among the selections are "Guantanamera, Compadre Pedro Juan, Oye Como Va," and many others.
